The second chapter of Motel Men 80 runs to 38 plates, and it is the stretch where the night stops settling in and starts to press. The first season set the motel down along its forgotten highway; the third will tip everything over. This middle chapter has a single task, to load the air until it is heavy, and it does so with the same few elements turned up: neon, cigarette haze, thin walls, ice machines that stay empty. The pressure is the point.

Motel Men 80 draws on the tradition Western fans call bara, the Japanese current of art by men, about men, centred on grown and heavily built bodies. The word comes from Barazoku, a gay magazine founded in Tokyo in 1971, and many Japanese creators prefer the term gei komi. Its conventions are well established: mature men rather than boys, body hair valued as a quality, work and effort as the engine, and a sensuality carried by posture before any gesture. This chapter keeps the maturity, the power and the weight of a body at rest. It trades the job site and the locker room for a rented room. These men are between places, restless, in for one night, and the charge comes from that suspension instead of from sweat earned on the clock.

Choosing a roadside motel in the eighties decides almost everything about how the heat travels. A motel is built for people passing through, which means strangers sleeping a wall apart, and walls this thin turn proximity into a kind of contact before anyone has moved. Neon gives the night its colour; haze softens and thickens the light. In the second chapter that setting stops being a backdrop. The partitions barely tremble, and that small tremor is where the tension lives, direct and unmasked, rising from room to room.

Motel Men 80 belongs to the Raw series, which gathers several themes under one name, and the intensity of this chapter does not come from surprise. It comes from accumulation, 38 plates of the same heavy air growing heavier, with powerful men whose presence alone is enough to fill a room they have only rented.

This chapter is for readers drawn to strong, grown men and to places that do half the work. If what holds you is the moment before, the stillness of a big body waiting under a neon glow, the sense that a wall is the only thing left between two restless men, it is built for you, and it keeps building.

Motel Men 80 is a season of InkDazzle: homoerotic art generated plate by plate, then composed as a chapter you read in order. Every season exists in three registers (suggestive, explicit and anime): the same men, drawn at the intensity you pick. Visitors read the opening plates; members read the whole season, and everything published before it.

The plates are read in order, one after the other, and the register can be switched from this page without losing your place. A season that belongs to a series carries its name at the top. That is the thread to follow if you want the men to come back.
