A first chapter has one job, which is to make the place believable before anything happens in it. Here the place is a Mediterranean seaside town, and what gets installed is not a plot but a set of conditions: white walls that throw light back onto skin, salt that dries in streaks, a temperature high enough to make stillness look deliberate. Everything that follows in this theme depends on the reader accepting that these men have nowhere urgent to be. That acceptance is what fifty-four plates are buying.

Bara, the Japanese term for gay art made by and for adult men, brings a set of expectations with it, and this chapter meets most of them. The bodies are mature and broad rather than slim and young, body hair reads as an asset rather than something to be removed, and sensuality is carried by stance before it is carried by action. The one convention this chapter sets aside is labour. Much of the genre finds its charge in work: the site, the gym, the workshop, sweat earned through effort. On this shore the sweat is simply weather, and the men are off duty. The bodies still tell you what they were built by, but the building happened somewhere off the page.

Fifty-four plates allow repetition to become a method rather than a flaw. The same figure can be seen at a distance and then close, the same corner of street can return an hour later with the shadows moved, and a glance exchanged early can be answered much further on. A shorter chapter would have to summarise. This one lets heat accumulate the way heat actually does, slowly and without event, which is why the promise at the end of it carries weight.

The suggestive register is a structural choice, not a softening. Clothing stays on, swimwear stays in place, and the entire charge is displaced into posture: weight on one hip, a shoulder turned a quarter away, a look held one beat past politeness. This is territory the genre knows well, since a great deal of bara draws its force from the interval before anything is decided. What separates this chapter from the others in the theme is that it never leaves that interval.

Heat & Water gathers the themes where temperature and water shape the setting, and Sitges Boys occupies its Mediterranean coast: tan lines, wet hair drying in the street, the specific confidence of men in a town where being looked at is normal. If you want adult, heavy, self-possessed male bodies in daylight and open air, this chapter is aimed squarely at you. If you came looking for youthful figures or for explicit material from the opening page, the later chapters and the stronger registers will serve you better than this one.

Sitges Boys is a season of InkDazzle: homoerotic art generated plate by plate, then composed as a chapter you read in order. Every season exists in three registers (suggestive, explicit and anime): the same men, drawn at the intensity you pick. Visitors read the opening plates; members read the whole season, and everything published before it.

The plates are read in order, one after the other, and the register can be switched from this page without losing your place. A season that belongs to a series carries its name at the top. That is the thread to follow if you want the men to come back.
